HEMPSTEAD, NY--Brett Carrington's goal in the second half lifted the Pride of Hofstra (3-7-3/2-2-2) To a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Monarchs of Old Dominion (6-5-2/3-2-1) Saturday evening. It was the Monarchs first loss in the CAA on the road.

Carrington got a long pass from Rory McCrea with about 29 minutes left from about 18 yards out where he got control of the ball and put it in the net for the game winner. It was Carrington's sixth goal of the year.

ODU outshot the Pride, 7-6 and the Monarchs had two shots on goal on the night. In the second half senior midfielder and pre-season CAA co -Player of the Year Trevor Banks (Madison, WI. ) got on the back end of a cross from about 10 yards out and hit a shot that Hofstra Keeper Greg Cumpstone dove to block. The other shot on goal was by Roberto Squeglia (Schenectady, NY.) .

With about 21 minutes left in the match, junior midfielder Nane Joseph ( Yaounde, Cameroon) got a cross at about the top of the six and had a leaping header that just missed to the left of the post.

The Monarchs return home to host James Madison Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the ODU Soccer Complex.
