Hofstra Defeats ODU in CAA Semi-Finals, 4-2
Nov. 3, 2006 NORFOLK, VA-- Second seed Hofstra (11-5-2) defeated the 23rd ranked Monarchs of Old Dominion (13-5-1), 4-2 in the semi-finals of the Colonial Athletic Association. Ross Mackenzie and Edson Elcock each scored for ODU. ODU took the early lead when Ross Mackenzie got a cross on the right side from A.J. Kulp 13 minutes into the match. Hofstra's Constantinos Christoudias scored two straight goals within a five minute span for the Pride to give them a 2-1 lead. CAA Player of the Year Michael Todd added a goal with 14 minutes left in the first half to give Hofstra a 3-1 halftime lead. ODU struck back with nine shots in the second half. All-CAA forward Edson Elcock got a pass from MacKenzie with 28 minutes left in the game to cut the lead to 3-2. Hofstra's Adran Papaluca got a break a way pass from Rob Youhill with less than two minutes remaining to finish the scoring at 4-2. ODU outshot Hofstra, 16-11. Freshman goalkeeper Evan Newton had three saves while Hofstra's Tom Johansen had three as well. THe NCAA tournament bid will be announced on ESPN News Monday at 5:00. ODU has gotten an atlarge berth to the tournament each of the last four years, including earning a top ten seed last year. ODU 1-1=2 Hof 3-1=4
