NORFOLK, VA-- Eight current and former ODU soccer Monarchs have helped lead the PDL Piranhas (14-0-2)to the Premier Development League's Eastern Conference playoffs which begin Friday at 5 p.m. in Ocean City, NJ against the Brooklyn Knights.

Monarchs on the roster include: 2006 CAA Defender of the Year David Horst, Nane Joseph, 2006 Academic Scholar All-American and All-CAA selection Jared Kent,Zach Kinney, Gregg Mottinger, 2006 CAA All-Rookie goalkeeper Evan Newton, Yomby William, and ODU's all-time scorer Attila Vendegh.

Newton, a rising sophomore has a 0.22 goals against average. Sophomore Nane Joseph has an assist, and Zach Kinney is second on the team with five goals scored. Jared Kent has one assist and Vendegh has two goals and one assist.

The Piranhas were the PDL's only unbeaten team this season. The Ocean City Barons are hosting the first two rounds of the conference playoffs. They play Cape Cod on Friday in the other first-round game. The winners will meet Sunday at 7:30 for the conference title. THe conference winner advances to the semifinal game the weekend of Aug. 3-5, with the PDL title game scheduled for Aug. 11.
