Three ODU Seniors Invited to 2008 MLS Combine
Dec. 13, 2007
NORFOLK, Va. -- Major League Soccer announced the initial list of 54 college seniors who have been invited to participate in the 2008 adidas MLS Player Combine. The list included three Monarchs in David Horst (Pine Grove, Pa.), Yomby William (Bafoussam, Cameroon) and A.J. Kulp (Ephrata, Pa.). ODU is one of just four schools in the nation represented by three players, with Southern Methodist and two of the final four teams alive in the College Cup, Wake Forest and Ohio State. The 2008 Combine will be held at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. January 11-15, 2008. Coaching and management staffs of all 14 MLS teams will be in attendance scouting the talent, which concludes three days before the 2008 MLS SuperDraft on Friday, January 18, 2008 in Baltimore, Md. Horst was named the first ever back-to-back winner of the CAA Defender of the Year award and was one of 29 players nationally named to the Preseason Hermann Award Watch. William helped anchor the defense with Horst, as the team posted 12 shutouts and a 0.63 goals against average. Kulp was the offensive leader for the Monarchs this season, with 18 points, five goals and eight assists. The Combine will separate all players into four teams and feature two games per day on January 12, 13 and 14. Last season, ODU alumni Edson Elcock and Jared Kent were invited to participate in the MLS Combine. Elcock was a third round draft pick to the Kansas City Wizards and Kent was selected in the supplemental draft to Real Salt Lake.
