NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The #59 Old Dominion men's tennis team upped its mark to 2-0 on the season as they blanked George Washington, 7-0, Friday evening at Center Court Racket Club. The Monarchs won all six singles matches in straight sets.

In doubles action, the 38th-ranked duo of senior Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa) and sophomore Nate Grover (Suffolk, Va.) cruised to an 8-1 victory over Jake Jopling and Elliot Daniels at the No. 1 slot. At No. 2 doubles, freshmen Rodrigo Souza (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Eidy Igarashi (Sao Jose do Rio Preto, Brazil) earned an 8-2 victory over Sam Salver and Gordon Daniels, while at No. 3 doubles junior Adriano Mello (Londrina, Brazil) and freshman Julian Cirimbelli (Balneario Camboriu, Brazil) teamed for an 8-3 win over Daniel Raisbeck and Daniel Balke.

ODU swept all six singles matches which included the first dual meet appearance of #7 Izak van der Merwe. Van der Merwe played to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jake Jopling at No. 1 singles, while Herique Cancado (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) earned a 6-2, 6-1 win over the Colonials' Daniel Raisbeck at No. 2 singles. Eidy Igarashi continued with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Elliot Daniels, while Adriano Mello picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win over George Washington's Sam Salver at No. 4 singles. Wrapping up lay were freshmen Julian Cirimbelli and Rodrigo Souza at No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively. Cirimbelli turned in a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Jason Sucoll and Souze edged Daniel Balke, 6-3, 7-5.

The Monarchs next dual meet will be Wednesday, January 26th at Virginia. The Cavaliers are currently ranked 10th in the latest ITA Poll.
