ODU Suffers Loss to East Carolina in Men's Tennis, 4-3

NORFOLK, Va. -- In the opener of this weekends Monarch Roundup, Old Dominion suffered its first loss of the 2010 season, 4-3 to East Carolina. The doubles point would seal the victory for the Pirates, as ECU narrowly bested the Monarchs. Old Dominion falls to 3-1 to start the season with the loss to ECU. Yakov Diskin and Krzystof Muzalewski paired for the only Monarch win in doubles action as Tobias Fanselow and Benjamin Chomette dropped a tight 9-8 (3) match to ECU's Shalmeved and Tuedt. ECU also won at number three doubles to take the doubles team point. In singles play, ODU won the first three matches at #1, 2 and 3 singles behind Fanselow, Chomette and Diskin. Chomette dropped the first set to Shalmeved but came back to win 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5), while Diskin also won a close one, 7-5, 7-6 (4). However, ECU would win #4, 5, and 6 singles, defeating the Monarchs rookies and earning the match victory. ODU will return to the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday, January 24 at 9:00 a.m. versus Liberty and again at 1:00 p.m. to take on Morgan State. Results:
