NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The Old Dominion University men's tennis team blanked its second straight opponent as they defeated local rival Norfolk State, 7-0, at the indoor courts at Center Court Racket Club in Newport News. The Monarchs stand at 2-0 on the year.

The Monarchs did not give up a set throughout the day as Old Dominion took all three doubles matches and all six singles matches.

In doubles play, the tandem of Zoltan Csanadi and Adriano Mello took home an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles over Petr Jkoubek and Jakub Novak and Izak van der Merwe and Nate Grover played to a 8-2 decision at No. 2 doubles against Viktor Duske and Kaumba Sakaruyi to take the doubles point.

In singles, No. 13 Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa) let up just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Petr Jakoubek. Senior Zoltan Csanadi (Timisora, Romania) only allowed his opponent, Viktor Dusek two games with a 6-2 first set win and a 6-0 second set victory. Senior Calin Milos (Timisoara, Romania) downed Jakub Novak, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3 singles, while Niklas Oskarsson (Hamlsted, Sweden) earned a 6-2, 7-5 win over Milan Juricka at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Adriano Mello (Londrina, Brazil) played his way to a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles over Pavel Pucky and freshman Nate Grover (Suffolk, VA), playing at No. 6 singles, won 6-1, 6-3, over Kaumba Sakaruyi.

Both the men's and women's tennis teams will return to action to play North Carolina Greensboro on Friday, January 30th at Center Court Racket Club in Newport News at 1:00 pm.
