BOSTON, Mass. - Carlos Lopez Villa defeated Shaun Chaudhuri 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 at No. 1 singles to lift Old Dominion University men's tennis 4-3 Sunday evening in Boston.

ODU improves to 4-2 overall and the win is the first over a ranked opponent since a 4-3 win over No. 33 VCU on Feb. 18, 2009.

The Monarchs got off to a strong start, earning the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Can Cetinel and Lopez Villa were 8-6 winners at No. 1 while Wesley Barrett and Tim Schweig had an 8-3 triumph at No. 3.

Jonas Kuwert got ODU on the board in singles action with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Nicky Hu at No. 4 while Zvonimir Podvinski gutted out a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.

Alex Steinroeder put together a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 while Andy Nguyen hung on to beat Dante Terenzio at No. 4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-0. Kelvin Lam defeated Wesley Barrett 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 for Harvard's third win, setting the stage for Lopez Villa's dramatic clinching victory.
