#75 Monarchs Roll Past Richmond

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The 75th ranked Old Dominion men's tennis team continues to roll as they improved to 4-0 on the season with a 7-0 victory over Richmond. The Spiders mark the fourth team the Monarchs have not allowed a match against. Junior Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa) and senior Niklas Oskarsson (Halmsted, Sweden) defeated Matthew Cabana and Derek Schwandt at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, while senior Calin Milos (Timisoara, Romania) and freshman Nate Grover (Suffolk, VA) defeated the Spiders' David Donn and Ryan Goldsmith at No. 2 doubles, 8-6, to take the point. The Monarchs swept all six singles matches in straight sets. Van der Merwe earned a 6-2, 7-6, victory over David Donn at No. 1 singles, while Csanadi captured a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 2 singles against Derek Schwandt. Milos downed Eric Hage, 6-4, 6-1 , at No. 3 singles. Oskarsson gave up just one game agasint Ryan Goldsmith, winning, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, while sophomore Adriano Mello (Londrina, Brazil) recorded a 6-4, 6-1, victory at No. 6 singles to round out play. The Monarchs return to action at Wake Forest. The match was originally scheduled for PACC this Sunday, Feb. 8th at 1 pm but been rescheduled for Wed. Feb. 18th at 3:00 pm and will be played in Winston-Salem, NC.
