No. 52 Virginia Defeats No. 68 Old Dominion In Men's Tennis

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The Virginia Cavalier men's tennis team, ranked No. 58 in the lastest ITA Poll, defeating No.68 Old Dominion, 5-2, Friday night at Boar's Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers improve to 9-1 on the season, matching their best start in school history. The Monarchs had their four-game win streak snapped and dropped to 9-4 overall. The Cavalier got ahead early by sweeping all three of their doubles matches. The Virginia team of Doug Stewart and Michael Duquette won at No. 1 doubles over the No. 4 ranked team of junior Zoltan Csanadi (Timisoara, Romania) and sophomore Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa). The Cavaliers' wins were continued by the No. 2 team of Rylan Rizza and Chris Gonyer over junior Calin Milos (Timisoara, Romania) and Patrik Binkowski (Orby, Sweden), 8-5, and the No. 3 team of Stephen Nolen and Darrin Cohen over the Monarchs' junior Niklas Oskarsson (Halmsted, Sweden) and senior Salman Mohammed (Calcutta, India), 8-2 Virginia won four of the six singles matches. Csanadi produced a 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 win over Mike Duquette at No. 2 singles and Mohammed defeated Darrin Cohen at No. 6 singles, 8-6, 6-1, 7-6. The Monarchs will return to action against #52 Memphis on February 10th in on the courts at Old Dominion in Norfolk, VA. MATCH SUMMARY:
