Men's Tennis Defeats NC State 4-3

The Old Dominion men's tennis team, currently ranked 75th nationally, defeated N.C. State Saturday at home 4-3. The Monarchs improve to 6-1 for the season. Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa) dropped the first match of the day for the Monarchs, losing 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 in Match 1 to Conor Taylor, giving the Wolfpack the early 1-0 lead. Zoltan Csandi (Timisoara, Romania) got ODU on the board in Match 2, taking out Will Shaw in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0 before Calin Milos (Timisoara, Romania) gave the Monarchs a 2-1 lead after beating Val Banada 6-2, 6-4. NC State's Andre Iriarte defeated Niklas Oskarsson (Halmstad, Sweden) 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in Match 4 to tie the score at 2, before Henrique Cancado took out Jon Davis 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 in Match 5 to once again put ODU on top 3-2. Will Nobblit took Match 6 over the Monarchs' Adriano Mello (Londrina, Brazil) 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 to tie the match again at 3-3. In doubles, the team of Izak van der Merwe and Niklas Oskarsson took out NC State's Will Shaw and Jon Davis 8-4 in the first match, while Zoltan Csanadi and Henrique Cancado paired up for a 8-3 victory over Val Banada and Dennis Meyers to secure the fourth and deciding point of the day. #75 Old Dominion 4, NC State 3
