WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- The Old Dominion men's tennis team fell to 51st ranked William and Mary in in a very close match, 4-3, at the Busch Tennis Courts in Williamsburg. The match was the final regular season contest for the Monarchs who finish with a 13-7 overall and 2-2 CAA record and begin preparations for next weekend's CAA Championships.

The Tribe swept the three doubles matches to begin the contest and win the team point. At No. 1, Geoffrey Russell/Sean Kelleher defeated Zoltan Csanadi/Izak van der Merwe, 9-8 (6). W&M pulled out another close win at No. 2, where Joe Brooks/Zack Malmgren defeated Patrik Binkowski/Salman Mohammed, 9-8 (5). In the third match, the Tribe's Alex Fish/Jeffrey Kader won, 8-5, over Calin Milos/Niklas Oskarsson.

Needing to at least split the six singles matches to win the match, the Tribe won two out of the first four to take a 3-2 lead. At No. 1 Kelleher defeated Csanadi, 6-4, 6-4 and Malmgren won at No. 5 over Johan van Rooyen, 7-5, 6-2, while the Tribe lost the third and fourth matches. Calin Milos used a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win at third slot, while Salam Mohammed used a 6-3, 6-4 straight set victory at No. 4.

That left the outcome of the match resting on the competitors on the second and sixth courts. Russell who secured the win for the Tribe, as he won his contest 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (5). The match-clinching win allowed Fish to retire his match, falling to Oskarsson, 6-1, 2-6, 6-6, ret.

The Old Dominion men's tennis team will return to action at the CAA Tournament to be held April 18-21 in Richmond.
