CHAPEL HILL, NC -- The top seeded duo of senior Zoltan Csanadi (Timisoara, Romania) and junior Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa) were upset in the Round of 16 at the ITA Men's Tennis Regional held at the University of North Carolina. In singles, 15th seeded Csanadi reached the Round of 16, while sixth seed van der Merwe fell in the Round of 32.

In singles, Csanadi, the 15th seed, opened play with a hard fought, 6-1, 6-7(5), 7-5, victory over Todd Paul of Wake Forrest. He then played to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Val Banada of N.C. State to advance to the Round of 16. In the Round of 16, Csanadi fell to second seeded Ludovic Walter of Duke in three sets by a score of 6-7 (1), 6-3, 7-5.

Second seeded van der Merwe used a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Ben Atkinson of South Carolina to open up play at the tournament. However in the following round, the Round of 32, van der Merwe was upset by Jarmaine Jenkins of Clemson in three sets, 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-2.

Together, van der Merwe and Csanadi, opened doubles play with the top seed taking an 8-3 victory over Viktor Dusek and Milan Juricka of Norfolk State. However, the Monarch duo fell in the Round of 16 to Nick Methayler and Rylan Rizza of Virginia, 8-6.
