ANN ARBOR, MI -- The Monarch tennis doubles team of senior Zoltan Csanadi (Timisoara, Romania) and junior Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa) are off and running at the 2003 ITA National Indoor Championships as they won their opening match to advance to the tournament's quarterfinals on Friday.

Csanadi and van der Merwe opened play with a 9-7 victory over Alex Slovic and Alex Vlaski of Washington in their first round match-up. The two Monarchs will face Michael Calkins and Chris Martin of Illinois Friday night at 8:00 p.m. in hopes of reaching the semifinals.

The Old Dominion duo have already reached the semifinals of the ITA All-American Tournament and the Round of 16 at the ITA East Region Championships. Additionally Csanadi and van der Merwe captured the Old Point Bank Tournament title.
