Men's Tennis Takes on Richmond, UMBC This Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University men's tennis hosts a pair of matches this weekend as they take on Richmond on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. and UMBC on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. Old Dominion is 1-1 on the year, opening the season with a 5-2 loss at Georgia Tech and winning 5-2 over Norfolk State on Sunday. The Monarchs are led by the reigning C-USA men's tennis Athlete of the Week, Carlos Lopez Villa. The sophomore is 2-0 in the year, defeating No. 32 Juan Spir of Georgia Tech, 6-4, 6-4 in the season-opener. Junior Dante Terenzio is also 2-0 for the Monarchs. Richmond is 2-1 on the year competing at VCU last weekend in a dual tournament. The spiders opened with a 4-1 win over Morgan State, took a 5-0 setback to VCU and defeated James Madison, 4-1. Jesse Feder and Paul Nahon lead UR with two wins apiece. This will be the season-opener for UMBC. Last season, the Retrievers went 10-10 and advanced to the America East Championship match before falling to No. 1 seed Binghamton, 4-1. ODU won last year's match, 6-1.
