RICHMOND, Va. - Old Dominion senior Izak van der Merwe (Kempton Park, South Africa) was selected as the CAA men's tennis player of the week of the week for March 22. Van der Merwe, currently ranked 25th in the latest ITA Poll, picked up two wins at No. 1 singles in the Monarchs 1-1 week.

Van der Merwe, the 2004 CAA Player of the Year, defeated American's JuanCarlo Vazquez 6-2, 6-3 in the Monarchs' 6-1 win over the Eagles. The 25th-ranked van der Merwe then knocked off 82nd-ranked Clayton Almeida of Winthrop, 6-3, 6-4 as ODU suffered a close 4-3 setback. Van der Merwe is 19-9 overall this season and 10-5 in dual meet competition.
