NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior Aleksandr Seleznev (Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic) headlined the Monarch selections for the 2008-09 Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State Teams, earning First Team Singles and Doubles honors. Sophomore Tobias Fanselow joined Seleznev as his doubles partner for First Team honors, and also earned a Second Team Singles nod.

Alex was named CAA Player of the Year for his final campaign in a Monarchs uniform, and earned an automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Singles Championship in Texas. In dual action, he posted a 22-5 record in No. 1 singles, and finished the season with a 29-10 mark in singles. Most notably he defeated VaSID Player of the Year and 12th ranked Sanam Singh of Virginia.

Fanselow earned Second Team honors after going 29-14 in singles action, including a perfect 3-0 in No. 1 and an 18-9 record in No. 2 dual action. He was named First Team All-CAA and ranked as high as 80th in the nation. He had four wins over nationally ranked opponents in his second year.

Seleznev and Fanselow qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championship last month after earning First Team All-CAA honors and ranking 33rd in the nation. Facing California's 19th ranked tandem, the ODU pair fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, but posted a 21-7 record together in the 2008-09 season. In the regular season, the Monarchs defeated three nationally ranked teams in the top 50, including 2nd ranked Sanam Singh and Houston Barrick from UVa.

Alex and Tobias led the Monarchs to an 18-13 overall record, including wins over #33 VCU and #55 St. Mary's.
