BLACKSBURG, VA -- Old Dominion sophomore Zoltan Csanadi (Timisoara, Romania) reached the championship round of the main singles draw at the 2001 Virginia Tech Indoor Invitational. Csanadi, seeded fourth in the tournament, fell to Francis Huot of Virginia Tech in a hard fought 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 battle.

Csanadi cruised to the final round with straight sets over all his opponents. He opened play with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Charlie Briggs of William and Mary and defeated Hampton's Alvero Layrisse, 6-3, 6-4. In the quarterfinal round, Csandi defeated another Tribe member, handing Alex Fish a 6-1, 7-5 loss. He reached the championship game with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over second seeded Davor Dupljak of host Virginia Tech.

In other singles action, junior Patrik Binkowski (Orby, Sweden) reached the second round. Binkowski used a 6-2, 6-2 win over Virginia's Tim Snead to advance, but fell to eighth seeded Michael Kurz of Virginia Tech, 6-4, 7-6 (2). Junior Mohammed Salmon (Calcutta, India), sophomore Calin Milos (Timisoara, Romania), and sophomore Niklas Oskarsson (Halmstad, Sweden) each fell in the first round of play. Salmon suffered a 6-1, 6-4 loss to top seeded Mats Norin of Virginia Commonwealth, Milos lost to Matt Davis of William and Mary 6-4, 6-1, and Oskarsson fell 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 to Jason Romesburg of Virginia.

In the doubles draw, Csanadi and Binkowski reached the semi-finals. The top seeds at this year's invitational, they defeated Virginia's entry 8-5 and teamed for a 8-4 victory over the duo from Virginia Tech. The doubles team ride came to a halt in the semi-finals with a 8-3 loss to Huot and Laulund of Virginia Tech.

Old Dominion's other doubles entry, Mohammed and Milos, reached the quarterfinals. They opened play with a 8-5 victory over Reichert and Abbas of Virginia Tech, but fell 8-3 to fourth seeded Brooks and Malmgren of William and Mary.
