ODU Wrestling Finishes 4th in Virginia Intercollegiate State Championships

NORFOLK, VA -The Old Dominion wrestling team finished 4th out of six teams Sunday at the Virginia Intercollegiate State Championships with 84.5 points. Adam Wright (Dayton, VA) won the 184 weight class, defeating VMI's Corry Murray in the final round by a 8-3 decision. Wright defeated JMU's Keith Adams 4-2 in the semifinal round. Derrell Lorthridge (Wilmington, DE) won the Heavyweight title by defeating VMI's Scott Buhlman in the final round 5-2. Lorthridge took out JMU's Chris Cvitan (10-7) and the Apprentice School's Daryl Stackhouse (F 5:36) to reach the finals. Also placing for the Monarchs were Jared Smith (Newport News, VA), who took third in the 125 weight class, Chris Buckner (Chesapeake, VA), who took third at 133, Jesse Pearce (Norfolk, VA) took second at 157, and John Adams (Chesapeake, VA) took second at 165. Virginia Military Institute won the tournament with 97.5 points and Head Coach John Trudgeon earned coach of the meet honors. Virginia's Scott Moore, wrestling in the 141 class and ranked #2 nationally, took home the wrestler of the meet trophy. Virginia Intercollegiate State Championships Team Results: 1. VMI 97.5 2.
