FAIRFAX, VA - The Old Dominion Wrestling Monarchs finished their weekend campaign at the CAA Duals 3-1-1 after beating Boston University, falling to Hofstra, and tying Rider in the second day of competition. ODU went 2-0 the first day of competition; they are now 7-5-1 overall, 3-1-1 in the conference.

In round three of today's match's ODU faced 19th ranked Hofstra in a close battle 26-15. The Monarch were up 12-8 going into the 157 weight class bout until the Pride's James Strouse landed a 15-3 major decision over Old Dominion's Nick Pullano tying the score at 12. From there, not another Monarch wrestler beat their opponent except senior 197 pounder Adam Wright fought to a 3-2 decision over Chris Weidman.

Moving on to round four, the Monarch Wrestlers faced Rider University and wrestled to an 18-18 deadlock. The three seniors Robby Gosnell, Adam Wright, and John Dolida each had notable victories in the contest. Gosnell had a 9-7 decision over his opponent, Wright, ranked at no. 18 by Amateur Wresting Mag., beat no. 19 TJ Morrison by a close 3-2 margin, Dolida came up with a 5-2 win over Peter Reid to tie the match at 18.

Lastly, in the final round ODU broke Boston University by a score of 34-10. Freshman Bryan LaShomb registered an 11-3 major decision over the Terrier's Bryan Mastura. John Dolida, again with a big win beat his Terrier foe Orrey Hall by fall at the 5:56 mark.

All-time Old Dominion is 2-2 against the Hofstra Pride, 1-3-1 against Rider, and 2-2 facing the Terriers of Boston University.

Freshmen Ryan Williams, Bryan LaShomb, and David Mendoza, along with senior Robby Gosnell went an impressive 4-1 this weekend. Adam Wright remains undefeated in the conference going 5-0 this weekend. Wright now has 109 career victories, 24 of which have come this season alone.

"I thought the team did well this weekend," head coach Steve Martin comments. "We reversed the loss we had against Drexel yesterday, and with the tie against Rider that will put us in a tie for 2nd place in the conference so I am pleased about that."

The Monarch Wrestling team will now take two weeks off to prepare for their home scholarship dual match against the University of Virginia, February 3, 2006. That match is slated to start at 7:00 pm.
