NORFOLK, VA  -The Old Dominion wrestling team dropped a 27-12 dual to #11 Hofstra Sunday afternoon at the ODU Field House to fall to 7-5 overall for the season and 5-2 in Colonial Athletic Association action.  Hofstra improves to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the CAA.

Hofstra took a quick 3-0 lead after Paul Siemon, ranked as high as #13 nationally at 174, defeated John Adams (Chesapeake, VA/Deep Creek) by a 6-0 decision.  The Monarchs grabbed a 6-3 lead after Hofstra forfeited the 184 weight class, but a 10-1 major decision by Hofstra's Joe Rovelli over Shea Smith (Virginia Beach, VA/Tallwood) at 197 gave Hofstra the 7-6 lead.  Hofstra's Chris Skretkowicz, ranked as high as #2 nationally at 197, pinned John Dolida (Bridgewater, NJ) in the Heavyweight class to extend the Pride lead to 13-6.

Christian Staylor (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge) cut the deficit to 13-9 by defeating Hofstra's Dave Tomasette by a 9-4 decision at 125, but B.J. Compton (Christiansburg, VA) dropped a 14-1 major decision to Charles Griffin, ranked #20 by WIN Magazine, in the 133 class to give Hofstra the 17-9 advantage.

Shanon Slack (Richmond, VA) defeated the Pride's John Manarte by a 3-2 decision at 141 to cut the deficit to 17-12, but major decisions by Jon Masa and James Strouse, as well as a 3-1 decision victory by Chris Vondruska gave Hofstra the 27-12 victory.

The Monarchs return to action Thursday, February 3, when they face UNC-Greensboro in Greensboro, NC.  ODU returns home next Sunday, February 6 to host NC State at 4:30.  Takedown Radio will nationally broadcast the dual and ODU wrestling Hall of Famer Buddy Lee will showcase his jump roping skills and equipment before the match.
