NORFOLK, VA - The Old Dominion Monarch wrestling team fell to Virginia 19-17 Friday night at the ODU Fieldhouse.  Old Dominion stands at 7-6-1 overall, 3-1-1 in the CAA.

Senior from Dayton, Virginia, no. 19 Adam Wright had another impressive night earning a major decision over UVA's Brent Jones 20-9. Wright nearly pinned Jones in the third period before his Virginia adversary slipped out of Wright's hold. Wright was awarded three points for a near fall. Wright now has 110 career wins, just 12 shy of breaking ODU Hall of Famer Buddy Lee's record of 122 career wins.

Chesapeake native Nick Pullano pulled off a 10-2 major decision over Cavalier Kyle Artusio. Fellow Great Bridge alum Bryan LaShomb scored a 9-5 decision over Anthony Burke to take the 125-weight class. BJ Compton, Ryan Williams, and Jeff Becker all lost to their Virginia opponents, Compton by fall at 1:51 to Nick Alparone, Williams by major decision 12-2, and Becker by a 5-1 decision.

Senior John Dolida fell by a 4-1 decision to Nick Smith, while senior Robby Gosnell held Virginia's Damian Johnson to a 3-2 decision in favor of the Monarchs. After scoring an early takedown for a 2-0 lead, David Mendoza lost a close match at 184 pounds to Kyle Narkiewicz 5-2. TJ Hansen defeated Mike Grogan by a 4-2 decision.

ODU is now 16-20 against the Cavs all-time last beating them back in 1994 by a score of 21-16. UVA advances to 8-4 overall.

The Monarchs host UNC-G in Sunday's Kid's Day match this Sunday, February 5. The match is set to kick off at noon.

Prior to the match, in conjunction with Kid's Day, ODU Wrestling will hold a kid's clinic from 10:00-11:30am for ages K-8. A $250 donation will be made to the wrestling club that shows up to the match with the most members. After the fifth collegiate match of the day, there will be a break in the action for two youth matches between members of the wrestling clubs that attend the Kid's Day clinic.
