NORFOLK, VA -The Old Dominion wrestling team dropped their fifth straight dual Friday night, dropping a close decision to Virginia Military Institute 21-20 at the ODU Fieldhouse. The Monarchs took a 7-0 lead after Robby Gosnell (Warrenton, VA) took a 6-1 decision over P.K. Neumann and Adam Wright (Dayton, VA) defeated Corry Murray (MD 16-5) in the 174 and 184 weight classes.. The Keydets bounced back, though, and Jason Cox earned a tech. Fall over Rob Valentine (Alexandria, VA) 21-5 at 197, to put VMI on the board, 7-5.

Derrell Lorthridge (Wilmington, DE) took a 9-4 decision over Scott Buhman in the Heavyweight division to stretch the ODU lead to 10-5, but the Monarchs dropped the next four classes by major decisions to give VMI a 21-10 lead. Jesse Pearce (Norfolk, VA) earned a 12-4 major decision over Matt Burton in the 157 weight class to bring the score to 21-14 and John Adams (Chesapeake, VA) had the only pin of the night, defeating Matt Burton (F 2:55).

The Monarchs are back in action tomorrow as they take on Colonial Athletic Association rival Campbell University. The meet starts at 2:00 PM at the ODU Fieldhouse.
