NORFOLK, VA - In one of the closes matches of the season, the UNC Tar Heels defeated the Monarchs by a score of 19-16. Old Dominion is now 11-6-1 overall, while UNC-Chapel Hill improves to 16-8-1.

The match started at 157 pounds with Nick Pullano falling to his adversary 8-6 to give UNC an early 3-0 lead. Next, at 165 pounds, Robby Gosnell beat his opponent 6-3 to tie the team score 3-3. TJ Hansen and David Mendoza then beat their competition giving ODU a 9-3 lead.

At 197 pounds no. 17 Adam Wright fell to unranked David Dashiell, before John Dolida lost to no. 12 Spencer Nadolsky by a 11-1 major decision. This allowed UNC to grab a 10-9 lead.

Freshmen Bryan LaShomb and Ryan Williams won both of their matches to give the Monarchs the lead again by a score of 16-10. LaShomb majored his opponent 12-3, and Williams claimed a 5-0 decision.

In the final two matches, BJ Compton and Jeff Becker both lost to their opponents allowing the Tar Heels to walk away with the win.

With the 2005-06 season behind them, ODU Wrestling will compete in the CAA Championships March 3-4. The Championships are hosted by Drexel University.
