Junior 125-pounder John Starkes (Chesapeake, VA) and freshman 165-pounder Matt Ulrey were victorious in their first match of the 2003 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament hosted by Hofstra University on Friday.

Starkes defeated Sacred Heart's Phil Kalil 7-5 in overtime while Ulrey needed just 1:35 to pin PJ Richard from Wagner in his first ever CAA tournament action.

Junior Greg Gill (Chesapeake, VA) was the only other Monarch in action in the first round as he fell 19-5 to Drexel's Chris Jones. The Monarchs and Dragons are tied early in fifth place with four points apiece.

Sacred Heart is out in front with eight early points. Friday's second round will begin at 4:30 p.m.
