Wrestling Downs Buffalo and Cleveland State, Falls to No. 13 Ohio State on Saturday
Nov. 12, 2011 HARRISBURG, Pa. - Old Dominion University wrestling defeated Buffalo and Cleveland State on Saturday while falling to No. 13 Ohio State at the Wrestle for a Cure Duals in Harrisburg. Scott Festejo, No. 13 John Nicholson, Tristan Warner, No. 8 Te Edwards, Joe Budi and Matt Tourdot all tallied two wins each on the day as the Monarchs racked up six total wins in the opening dual against Buffalo in which they prevailed, 24-15. Edwards and Budi each recorded a fall against the Bulls. Nicholson had one of the biggest wins of the day for ODU when he defeated No. 10 Mark Lewandowski, 8-4, at 157 pounds. Despite keeping nearly every match close, No. 13 Ohio State proved too be too much for the Monarchs as the Buckeyes won nine match-ups. The lone win for ODU came at 165 pounds as Warner downed OSU's Derek Garcia, 6-4. In a battle of top-10 opponents, No. 4 Nick Heflin for the Buckeyes proved to be too much at 174 pounds as he handed No. 8 Edwards his first loss of the season, 13-6. The Monarchs capped off their day with a convincing 29-9 victory over Cleveland State to bump their dual record to 3-1 on the season. Seven ODU wrestlers recorded wins including the second pin of the day for Budi at 197 pounds and a tech fall by Nicholson at 157 pounds. "We were able to start out with a good win over a tough Buffalo squad," said head coach Steve Martin. "John Nicholson was able beat a top-10 opponent there which was a win on the day for us. We were competitive but just couldn't seal the win in several matches against a very good Ohio State club in our second dual. In our final dual, we were able to slide a few guys around and picked up several good victories over Cleveland State. It is still a learning process with such a young team but improvement was made from last week and we know what we need to improve on coming up. The competition we faced this weekend will help us out later in the season."
