AMES, Iowa - No. 19 Iowa State won the first five matches of the night and held off an Old Dominion rally for a 26-11 win over the Monarchs Sunday night in Ames.

The Monarchs were unable to win the close matches, falling in two matches by a point and two matches by three points.

After getting behind 20-0, Joe Budi got Old Dominion (0-2) on the board with a 10-3 win over Cole Shafer. Budi was able to score three takedowns to built up the lead and hang on for the win.

Iowa State (4-0) won the next two matches by a combined four points to clinch the team victory.

James Nicholson secured five takedowns and did not allow one in a dominating 15-3 major decision. Kyle Hutter followed suit with an 11-3 major decision. Hutter grabbed four takedowns and also did not give one up in the win.

The match began at 141 where 11th ranked Chris Drouin beat Brennan Brumley 6-3. Nate Carr won another close match for ISU, topping Joey Metzler 3-2. Iowa State pulled away as Andrew Sorenson and Jonathan Reader won by pin and major decision, respectively.

ODU returns to action next Saturday as they travel to Indiana to compete in the Hoosier Duals.
