NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University wrestling team will be back in action against Rider on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 1:00 p.m. in the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
The Monarchs most recently defeated Binghamton 21-18 on Friday night at the Ted Constant Center. The Monarchs got five big wins from: Rob Deutsch, Scott Festejo, Justin LaValle, John Nicholson and Brett Miller. Deutsch picked up bonus points for ODU as he won his match 19-3. LaValle gave the Monarchs four team points after he won by major decision (10-0) in the 141-pound bout. Nicholson also gave ODU bonus points as he pinned his opponent at the 4:17 mark.
The Monarchs currently have five nationally ranked wrestlers within their respective weight classes: No. 14 Jerome Robinson (125), No. 13 Chris Mecate (141), No. 30 Alexander Richardson (149), No. 25 John Nicholson (157) and No. 31 Billy Curling (174).
Old Dominion is now 9-5 overall and 4-0 in CAA duals this season. The Monarchs have not lost at home this season (3-0).
Rider comes into Sunday’s match with an 8-5 overall and 2-1 CAA record in dual matches. The Broncs are led by their four nationally ranked wrestlers: No. 26 Jimmy Morris (133), No. 30 Zac Cibula (157), No. 16 Ramon Santiago (165) and No. 33 James Brundage (174).
