NORFOLK, Va. - On Tuesday, the Colonial Athletic Association announced that Old Dominion University's 141-pounder, Chris Mecate has won the CAA Rookie of the Week award for all competition from Feb. 12 through Feb 18. This is the second time in as many weeks that Mecate has earned this award, and the third time this season.

Most recently, Mecate defeated George Mason's Sahid Kargbo, 3-0. The win extended Mecate's winning-streak to eight matches. Mecate's last loss came on Jan. 11 against the No. 5 ranked wrestler in the country, Edinboro's Mitchell Port.

Mecate improved his record to 33-7 overall, 7-1 in duals and 4-0 in CAA matches.

The freshman from Highland, Calif. remains Old Dominion's highest ranked wrestler. This week, Mecate is ranked as high as No. 12 within his respective weight class.

Mecate and the wrestling Monarchs will be back in action on March 9 in Boston Mass., when they will compete in their final CAA Championships.
