2010 NCAA Tournament Bracket

NCAA Tournament Notes

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The No. 23 Old Dominion wrestling team will send three wrestlers to the NCAA Wrestling Championships, March 18-20 at the Qwest Center in Omaha Neb. The NCAA announced the brackets and seeds Wednesday evening and two Monarchs earned top-10 seeds.

Junior James Nicholson was awarded the No. 7 seed at 125-pounds, while senior Jesse Strawn earned a No. 10 seed at 197-pounds. Although ranked in the top-15 most of the year, senior Chris Brown was not awarded a seed and will have to fight his way though a tough field at 165-pounds.

Nicholson posted a 30-1 record on the year and will face off against Cashe Quiroga, a freshman out of Purdue. Quiroga was 25-12 on the year. The Purdue rookie earned his spot in the championship with a sixth-place effort at the Big Ten Championships. Nicholson and Quiroga would have met at the Old Dominion Duals this season, but Quiroga filled in at 133-pounds that day for Akif Eren, who was held out due to injury.

Strawn will look to turn his No. 10 seed into a podium appearance after going 29-5 during his senior campaign. He will battle freshman Cody Magrum of Ohio State in the first round. Magrum earned an at-large bid after going 17-15 during his rookie year.

Brown was one of ODU's most consistent performers this year, going 29-3. He will go up against No. 4 seed Jonathan Reader of Iowa State in a tough first round matchup. Reader, a two-time All-American, posted a 22-4 record during his junior season.

Action will kickoff from the Qwest Center on March 18.
