Wrestling Recruiting Class Named Eighth By InterMat
June 8, 2005 Manheim, Pa. -- Old Dominion's incoming recruiting class was named eighth in the nation by InterMat, one of the nation's foremost leader in college wrestling coverage. The Top 10 ranking by InterMat marks the second such distinction for head coach Steve Martin's class. At the end of May, W.I.N. Magazine listed the Monarchs among the Top 10 recruiting classes in the nation. Old Dominion, along with Virginia Tech, were the only two school's on W.I.N Magazine's list which featured Top 10 recruiting classes and that were not ranked in the nation's Top 25 last season.
""It is very good for the school to get this kind of exposure, especially ahead of established programs like Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Lehigh," said Martin. "They are some of the nation's top teams and with this incoming class, we feel that Old Dominion will be ready to be on that level very soon."
"The recruiting class rankings are a real testament to our coaching staff, which has worked hard to bring national-level student-athletes to Old Dominion. It also shows that those national-level wrestlers believe they can win here, and we believe they will win here."
Martins' 14-man recruiting includes late Braxdon Scaletta, Kaylen Baxter, Cam Watkins, Bryan Koz, Kevin Harrington, Matt Pellar, David Mendoza, Bryan LaShomb, Jeff Becker, Chris Brown, and Ben Fiacco who signed in late April along with May signees in Ryan Williams, Illinois transfer Michael Martin (Chesapeake, Va.), and Missouri transfer T.J. Hansen (Dallas, Texas).
