NORFOLK, Va. - Three members of Old Dominion University’s 2012-13 wrestling team were named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s (CAA) preseason All-Freshman team on Tuesday as announced by the league office.

Newcomers Alexander Richardson (141), Kevin Beazley (197), and Lucas Ryan (Heavyweight) were named to the 2012-13 team representing ODU.

Richardson (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter’s Prep) was a New Jersey state champion his senior year of high school and placed first at the NHSCA Senior Nationals. He also was a three-time regional champ and finished first at the NHSCA Junior Nationals in 2011. 

Beazley (Howell, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) became a state champion his senior year. He was the Michigan state runner-up his junior year and has received 13 All-American honors throughout his career. Beazley placed second at Fargo Nationals twice and was a two-time Flo Nationals finalist.

Ryan (Mount Jackson, Va./Stonewall Jackson) was a two-time Virginia State champion. He also was a three-time regional champion and three-time regional wrestler of the year. Ryan tallied a career high school record of 154-24 with 120 pins.

Also named to the CAA Preseason All-Freshman team were five members from Drexel in Matt Cimato (149), Jason Fugiel (157), Steven Elicegui (165), Conor Moran (174) and Gage Harrah (184). Rounding out the All-Freshman team was Jamel Hudson of Hofstra and Patrick Skinner of Rider.

The Monarchs host their annual Intrasquad scrimmage on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Jim Jarrett Athletic Administration Building. Admission is free.
