Festejo and Warner Power Old Dominion in Intrasquad
Oct. 25, 2012
NORFOLK, Va.- The Old Dominion University wrestling team conducted their annual Blue-Silver Intrasquad scrimmage Thursday night. The event featured a total of 11 different matches. Head coach Steve Martin was pleased with what he saw at the scrimmage, "We wanted to make sure all of our guys were competing hard for seven minutes. We wanted to put them in a match like environment before going on the road next week at Clarion. You get a better of how well they are going to compete in front of other people. Our freshmen fought hard which was nice to see. It's early obviously but I saw some positive things out of a lot of guys and it was great to see so many people coming out and supporting us." Tristan Warner earned a 10-3 decision over Adrin Taylor at 165 pounds. Warner is taking nothing for granted this season, "I have to leave it all on the mat and be confident each and every time I go out there. It's nice to get back into the swing of things as we quickly approach the start of the season. We have a lot of tough guys on this team and there are some really good battles at weight classes all over." Scott Festejo proved to be more than Michael Hayes could handle on his way to a 10-3 major decision in the 133 weight class. 125 pound redshirt freshman Rob Deutsch cruised to an 11-2 major decision over Buddy Scarborough in the first match of the night. Chris Mecate beat Josh Clark via major decision in an 8-0 141 pound bout.
