NORFOLK, Va. - Senior Jackie Cook became the 30th Old Dominion University women's basketball player to reach 1,000 points on Thursday night as the Lady Monarchs defeated William and Mary late at the Ted Constant Convocation Center, 75-64.
Cook, who scored a team-high 21 points for the second consecutive game, passed the milestone when she connected on a three-pointer for ODU's first points of the second half at the 16:53 mark as the Lady Monarchs and Tribe battled all night in a tightly contested affair that saw 10 ties and six lead changes before ODU was able to pull away late.
Redshirt senior Mairi Buchan passed 700 career points and scored in double figures for the third time in the last four games with 13 points on the night along with four assists, three steals and two rebounds. Sophomore Shae Kelley recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 17 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
William and Mary (6-19, 4-10) was able to overcome an early deficit to take a lead late in the first half and again early in the second half behind one of the CAA's top scorers in senior Emily Correal, who had a game-high 26 points and eight rebounds to go with two assists, a block and four steals.
The Tribe turned it over 20 times which was the 17th time this season that ODU has forced an opponent into 20 turnovers or more.
Old Dominion (18-9, 9-6) hit eight three-pointers for the second consecutive game and shot 46.2% (24-for-52) in the contest as they took a 35-33 lead into halftime. W&M was able to shoot 51.9% percent in the first half but was slowed in the second half and shot just 3-for-15 (20 percent) for the game from behind the arc after hitting eight three-pointers in the win in Williamsburg back on Jan. 27.
Thursday's game was part of the NCAA's country-wide initiative for Samaritan's Feet as ODU hosted the first ever 'Barefootin' Night' and encouraged fans to donate a pair used athletic shoes for a discounted price to supply those in need across the world who go barefoot every day.
Old Dominion wraps up their three-game homestand at the Ted Constant Convocation Center on Sunday against Hofstra at 2 p.m. on Senior Day in the Lady Monarchs' final regular season home game. Seniors Jackie Cook and Mairi Buchan will be honored before the start of the game.
