NORFOLK, Va. -- Junior Jessica Canady (Williamsburg, Va.) hauled in a career-high 19 rebounds and senior Tiffany Green (Chesapeake, Va.) tied her career mark with 21 points to lead the No. 23/20 Old Dominion women's basketball team to a 97-54 win over Norfolk State Sunday afternoon at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

Old Dominion, who upped their overall mark to 4-2 on the, year began the first of a four-game homestand. The Lady Monarchs will have the next week a half off as they prepare for final exams. They will return to action on Sunday, December 12th at 2:00 p.m. against Saint Joseph's, followed by meetings with defending NCAA Champion Tennessee on December 18th and 2006 NCAA Champion Maryland on December 21st.

The victory improved the Lady Monarchs' home win streak to 28 consecutive wins, tying Hartford for the nation's longest active home winning streak. The streak began back on Dec. 30, 2006 with a 72-55 victory over national runner-up Rutgers. ODU's last loss at the Ted Constant Convocation Center was against national champion Tennessee, 59-75, back on Dec. 22, 2006.

The Lady Monarchs led wire-to-wire starting the game on a 15-0 run and not allowing Norfolk State a field goal until the 14:21 mark of the opening half. Up 44-20 at the half, Canady had already netted 16 of her 24 game-high points and Green captured 10 of her career-tying 21 points.

The second half had Old Dominion outscoring the Spartans, 53-34. Canady put away lay-up with 2:35 remaining to give the Lady Monarchs it largest lead of the game, a 47-point 93-45 advantage.

Old Dominion put up 56 points in the paint, two more points than the entire Norfolk State roster. The Lady Monarch bench also produced 29 points led by sophomore Jasmine Parker (Norfolk, Va.). Parker went 3-of-4 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line to score 12 points on the afternoon.

 

 

The Spartans had just one in double figures. Whitney Long came off the bench for 19 points.
