RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman guard Galaisha Goodhope has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday it was announced by the league office.
Goodhope (Norfolk, Va./Princess Anne) set a career-high with 21 points on Sunday, 19 of which came in the second half as she helped spur the Lady Monarchs on a 42-16 run to end the game after they trailed Georgia State by 20 points with 13:21 in the second half.
In that 72-66 comeback win for Old Dominion, Goodhope was 6-for-11 from the field and 9-for-10 from the free throw line in just 18 minutes of action while grabbing five rebounds, a steal and registering an assist.
For the week, the freshman averaged 14.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in 20 minutes per contest off the bench as she collected three assists, two steals and shot .429 (9-for-21) from the field against Pittsburgh and Georgia State. In addition, she shot .714 (10-for-14) from the free throw line for the week.
After Sunday's offensive output, Goodhope has moved to third on the team in scoring average at 6.2 points per game. She is also fourth on the team in both assists and steals.
Goodhope joins fellow freshman guard LaQuanda Younger as the second Lady Monarch to win the award this season. Younger was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Dec. 10.
Old Dominion hosts Towson on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in their home CAA opener at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
