    NORFOLK, VA (Jan. 28, 2001) -- The #3 Tennessee Lady Vols downed Old Dominion this evening, 87-70, The Lady Vols improve to 21-1 on the year while Old Dominion drops to 10-6.

    Tennessee broke open a close game with just under eight minutes left in the first half as the Lady Vols went on a 11-2 run that would eventually turn into a 43-31 halftime lead. The Lady Monarchs then went cold in the second half, making just three field goals in the first eight minutes and watching Tennessee increase their lead to 27.

    The Lady Vols were dominating under the glass all night, outrebounding Old Dominion 50-25. The Lady Monarchs were saddled with foul trouble as well, getting whistled on 27 calls to 19 for Tennessee. Old Dominion was led by senior Hamchetou Maiga, who finished the game with 17 points and five rebounds in 21 minutes. Guards Sharron Francis and Okeisha Howard finished with 11 and 13 points respectively. Tennessee forward Gwen Jackson netted 23 points and center Michelle Snow added 19 for the victors.

    The Lady Monarchs will return to action on Wednesday night, January 31, when they host #14 Rutgers.
