NORFOLK, Va. – A memorial service for Sara Jones, the volunteer assistant to Old Dominion University head women’s basketball coach Karen Barefoot for the past two seasons, has been set for Monday, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m.
Jones served as Barefoot’s volunteer assistant the past two seasons and was an incredible motivator for the Lady Monarch team. She passed away early on Friday morning at the age of 40 after a 12-year battle with breast cancer.
The memorial service on Monday will take place at the Wave Church at 1000 N. Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers and gifts, Jones’ family has asked that donations be made to Beyond Boobs, a local support group that consists of women who have fought or are fighting cancer.
