Women's Basketball Releases 2012-13 Non-Conference Schedule
Aug. 15, 2012
NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion University women's basketball team non-conference schedule for the 2012-13 season features seven home games and a trip to the "World Vision Classic" in Las Vegas, Nev., as announced today by head coach Karen Barefoot. "I think our non-conference schedule has a lot to offer and is highly competitive. To compete against Pittsburgh from the BIG EAST, California from the Pac-12, gives us a great mix," Barefoot said. "We have seven home games, which is great for our fans, and we have some exciting road trips." The Lady Monarchs begin the year with an exhibition contest against Elizabeth City State on Nov. 4 before opening the season at Virginia Tech on Nov. 9. It is the second-straight year the two teams have opened up against each other. This game represents the second of a four-year contract. ODU faces USC Upstate in the home opener on Nov. 13 in the first ever meeting between the two schools, while hosting VCU on Nov. 17 for the beginning of a four-year home-and-home deal. The Lady Monarchs hit the road on Nov. 20 for their last true road game of 2012 as they face Maryland Eastern Shore before returning home for three straight home games starting Nov. 30 against California. Old Dominion opens December with home contests against Dartmouth on Dec. 2 and North Carolina Central on Dec. 7. The game against NCCU will be the second annual Education Day, involving elementary schools and tips off at 11 a.m. ODU will then head to Las Vegas on Dec. 19-21 to compete in the World Vision Classic. ODU opens the tournament against UNLV on Dec. 19. If the Lady Monarchs win, they will play the winner of Kansas State vs. Texas A&M. If ODU loses, they play the loser of the Notre Dame, Alabama A&M contest. The third game of the tournament will be played Dec. 21. Following the Christmas holiday, ODU returns home to face South Carolina State on Dec. 29 before rounding out non-conference play at home against Pittsburgh on Jan. 2. "We wanted to put together a strong non-conference schedule that will test us, as well as one that our student-athletes and fans will enjoy," Barefoot said. The CAA schedule is expected to be released in early September. Season tickets for women's basketball are on sale now for $127 for adults, a 21% savings over the general admission cost for all 16 home games. Discounts are available for senior citizens, military members, youth under 17 and ODU faculty staff , and the family plan will provide for two adult and two youth tickets for only $254, or the price of just two tickets. Old Dominion and the Ted Constant Center will also host the NCAA Women's Basketball Regionals on March 31 and April 2, with the winner advancing to the NCAA "Final Four".
