    JAMAICA, NY (Dec. 7) -- Old Dominion University Lady Monarchs defeated The Red Storm of St. John's, 65-52 behind the solid play of newcomers Corrina Turner (Miami, FLa.) and Myriah Spence ( Espanola, NM.). Old Dominion improves to 2-3, and St. John's drops to 3-2.

    Down 22-16 in the first half, Myriah Spence, a 6-0 forward came off the bench and hit five straight points to draw the Lady Monarchs to within one, 22-21. With 1:20 left in the half, Spence hit another trey and the Lady Monarchs were up 29-24. Okeisha Howard(Va.Beach, Va.) finished the first half run with a trey to put Old Dominion up 32-24 at halftime. Spence finished with a career high nine points.

    Tiffany Thompson(Clinton, Md.) opened the second half with a trey to give ODU an 11 points lead at 35-24. St. John's cut the lead to four at 16:08 on a basket by Sherri Brown, but they would get no closer.

    Junior forward Hamchetou Maiga (Bamako, Mali ) scored 11 points and dished out five assists, while the 6-6 Turner hauled in ten rebounds to go with her 19 points.

    Old Dominion shot .449 (22-49) from the floor, while St. John's shot .322 (19-59). The Red Storm outrebounded ODU, 36-35. St. John's was led in scoring and rebounding by Tynisha Myles with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

    The Lady Monarchs break for exams and return to action on Dec. 18 when they host UCLA in the fieldhouse.
