Robin Smith was an integral part in the Lady Monarchs field hockey dominance in the early 1990's. She helped lead Old Dominion to three straight NCAA National Championships and was a three-time NCAA All-Tournament selection in 1990,1991 and 1992. During her four years at Old Dominion, the Lady Monarchs compiled a 98-4-1 record, and two undefeated seasons. From 1990-92, the Lady Monarchs put together a streak of 66 straight wins and 48 shutouts, outscoring opponents 539-39. As a senior in 1992, Smith scored 21 goals and assisted on eight others. Old Dominion roared to a 25-0 record, winning the NCAA title with a 4-0 victory over Iowa. Smith, the team co-captain, was named the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament MVP and also earned first team All-American honors. Later that same year she was named the Alumni Association's Female Athlete of the Year in the Spring of 1993. Smith captained the team in 1991 and earned All-American honors as the Lady Monarchs compiled a 26-0 record and defeated North Carolina, 2-0 for the NCAA crown. In 1990, Smith helped lead the Lady Monarchs to a 23-2-1 record and defeated North Carolina, 5-0 for the NCAA title. Old Dominion finished second in the nation in 1989. Smith was a member of the United States National field hockey team from 1990 to 1992, and played on the 12th ranked 1990 World Cup team and the 1991 bronze medal team at the Pan American games. The three-time All-South Region pick completed her career with 66 goals, 18 assists for 150 points. Smith graduated with a degree in business management.
