#2 Field Hockey Defeats Virginia, 3-2

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - Sophomore Melissa Leonetti's second half goal lifted second ranked and defending national champion Old Dominion University to a 3-2 victory over 12th ranked Virginia Sunday afternoon. The Lady Monarchs, winners of six straight are now 6-2 on the season. Tara Hermann (Perkasie, PA.) put the Lady Monarchs on the board first, but Virginia then took a 2-1 lead on goals by Jessica Coleman and Katie Slocum. Adrienne Yoder ( Coopersburg, Pa.) tied the match with 21:23 left in the first half on a penalty stroke. In the second half, Leonetti hit the game winner on an assist from freshman Lotte Bant (Amsterdam, Holland). Junior goalkeeper Marybeth Freeman registered six goal saves for the Lady Monarchs. Old Dominion returns to action with two more road games at Temple (Saturday) and Princeton (Sunday).
