NORFOLK, Va. -- Sophomore Kathleen Shea's (Elizaville, N.Y.) golden goal 1:42 into sudden victory overtime lifted the No. 14/13 Old Dominion field hockey team a 1-0 win over Northeastern in their 2007 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opener on Sunday afternoon at Foreman Field.

Senior Shannon Mobley (Va. Beach, Va.) had the ball inside the circle along the right post. As Mobley took the ball toward the Huskies' cage, she managed to draw out Northeastern keeper Liz Centofanti. Mobley then passed the ball to Shea who was wanting right in front of the Northeastern goal for an open look shot. The goal was Shea's fourth of the season and first career game-winner.

The victory marks the Lady Monarchs' third straight win as they improve to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in league action. Northeastern meanwhle dropped to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in CAA play.

Old Dominion outshot Northeastern 6-5 while the Huskies held a 4-1 edge in penalty corner attempts.

Both ODU netminder Kelly Driscoll (West Chester, Pa.) and her counterpart, Centofanti, made two saves apiece.

The Old Dominion field hockey team hits the road for their next two contests. The Lady Monarchs take on Towson on Friday, September 28th playing at Villa Julie College Field at 4:00 p.m. Old Dominion will also travel to Newark, Delaware to face No. 17/20 Delaware on Sunday, September 30th at 1:00 p.m.
