#4 Lady Monarch Field Hockey Blanks New Hampshire
Oct. 7, 2001 STORRS, CT -- The fourth ranked Old Dominion Field Hockey team (9-3, 1-0 CAA) ended its six-game road trip with a 8-0 shutout victory over the University of New Hampshire this afternoon. The Lady Monarchs were led by senior Julie Miracle (Audubon, PA) with three-goals and junior Tara Herrmann (Perkasie, PA) with two goals and an assist.
The Old Dominion offense dominated play firing off 34 shots on the Wildcat net throughout the 70-minute game. The Lady Monarch defense also played a key part in Old Dominion's second shutout of the weekend allowing New Hampshire to shoot just twice on the net. On Saturday afternoon, The Lady Monarchs held the Connecticut Huskies scoreless with a 3-0 victory. Junior Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA) stopped both Wildcat shots, while New Hampshire's Christine Buckley and Julie Munson combined for 20 saves on the afternoon.
Miracle scored the first goal of the afternoon, the game-winner, at the 27:50 mark en-route to a 4-0 Old Dominion lead after one half. Senior Adrienne Yoder (Coopersburg, PA) followed with an unassisted tally at 18:12 and freshman Lotte Bant (Amsterdam, Holland) added the third Lady Monarch goal, on the assist from Herrmann, just over six minutes later. Miracle closed the opening half with her second goal of the day, on the pass from freshman Melanie de Jager (Pretoria, South Africa), with over a minute remaining until the half.
Miracle continued right where she left off in the first half, netting the first Lady Monarch goal of the second half and her third of the day at 29:20. Junior Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA) found the back of the Wildcat net to extend Old Dominion's lead to 6-0, before Herrmann registered two unassisted tallies to close the game.
The victory ups head Coach Beth Anders career coaching record to 399-58-7, just one shy of becoming just the second ever NCAA and first Division I coach to amass 400 victories in a career. The Lady Monarchs return to Foreman Field for the first time in over a month as they take on CAA rival William and Mary on Friday, October 12th at 6:00 p.m.
