Lady Monarch Field Hockey Records Eighth Shutout Of The Year
Oct. 21, 2001
NORFOLK, VA -- The top ranked Old Dominion Field Hockey team (13-4, 3-0 CAA) recorded its highest scoring output of the season with a 11-0 shutout against former CAA rival, American. Six different Lady Monarchs scored, including hat tricks by junior Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA) and Adrienne Yoder (Coopersburg, PA).
Yoder recorded game-high four goals, tying the record for the largest goal output by a CAA player in a single game this season. Yoder will share the record with Katie Silverthorne of William and Mary who also logged four goals against VCU on October 7th. Additionally, Yoder assisted on three goals for 11 points for a single game points record in the CAA this season. She replaced the record formerly held by current teammate Angie Loy (Loysville, PA) and Silverthrone of William and Mary, who tallied eight points during a single match-up during the 2001 season.
Snow added three goals, all on penalty corners, and also registered an assist for seven points on the afternoon. She tallied the game-winner off the Lady Monarch's first corner of the afternoon at the 27:45 mark.
Also scoring for Old Dominion were Loy, senior Julie Miracle (Audubon, PA), and a two-goal effort from freshman Lotte Bant (Amsterdam, Holland). Sophomore Melissa Leonetti (Erdenheim, PA) assisted on two goals and rookie Melanie de Jager (Pretoria, South Africa) and junior Tara Herrmann (Perkasie, PA) also added an assist on the afternoon.
The Lady Monarch defense did an outstanding job allowing no shots from the Eagle offense. Juniors Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA) and Tina Walker (Suffolk, VA) combined for the shutout, while American goalkeeper Lauren McDonnell recorded 12 saves in net.
The game marked the largest margin of victory by the Lady Monarchs since last year's 11-0 shutout against Richmond.
The Old Dominion field hockey team will return to action on Saturday, October 27th looking to avenge its loss earlier this month to North Carolina. The game, which will feature the two teams from last year's NCAA Championship game, will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Foreman Field. Additionally, the Lady Monarchs will close out the 2001 regular season with a match-up against Northeastern on Sunday, October 28th at 2:00 p.m.
