NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion field hockey team (17-4, 3-0 CAA) used its tenth shutout of the year for 5-0 victory over 17th ranked James Madison (12-9, 2-1 CAA) in the championship game of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Field Hockey Championships. The Lady Monarchs captured their sixth straight CAA title and await to see the 16-team NCAA Tournament field to be announced on Tuesday.

The top-seeded Lady Monarchs used two first half goals, one by CAA Player of the Year and Tournament MVP, Adrienne Yoder (Coopersburg, PA),at the 15:10 mark and the other by Tara Hermmann (Perkasie, PA) with 6:07 remaining for a 2-0 advantage at the half. In the second half, Junior Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA) scored with 19:47 on the clock, followed by back-to-back goals by senior Julie Miracle. Snow and CAA Rookie of the Year Lotte Bant (Amsterdam, Holland) each added two assists on the afternoon.

The Lady Monarch defense did an outstanding job of keeping the Duke offense at bay. James Madison was only able to fire off two shots, both coming in the first half. Old Dominion, on the other hand, managed to shoot 26 times on the Duke net. The Lady Monarchs also held the advantage in penalty corners 16-4.

In net, the Dukes' Kiernan Raffo recorded an incredible 19 saves, while Old Dominion netminder Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA) registered two stops.

Five members of the Old Dominion field hockey team were selected to the CAA All-Tournament Team headlined Yoder. Freeman, Miracle, and Snow along with senior Crystal Carper were all named to the team.
