Field Hockey Defeats UMass in NCAA First Round, 6-1

PRINCETON, NJ - Top seed and defending National Champion Old Dominion University defeated Umass, 6-1 in the first round of the NCAA Field Hockey Championships. The Lady Monarchs (18-4) will meet Princeton, a 4-1 winner over Northeastern on game Sunday at 2 p.m. in the regional finals. Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA.) and Tara Hermann ( Perkasie, Pa.)scored two goals each on the day. Snow also had an assist on the day. After first half goals by Lotte Bant (Amsterdam, Holland) and Hermann put the Lady Monarchs up, 2-0, Umass got a goal from Jill Fantasia with 19:05 left in the half. In the second half, Tiffany Snow scored on a penalty corner two minutes into the half, the with 23 minutes left passed to Angie Loy (Loysville, Pa.) for a goal to make it 4-1. Hermann scored on an unassisted goal four minutes later and with three minutes remaining, Snow completed the Lady Monarchs scoring on an unassisted goal. Old Dominated dominated play, outshooting Umass, 24-3 and getting 21-2 edge in penalty corners.
