Virginia Beach native on U.S. field hockey team
June 20, 2012
Caroline Nichols has transformed herself, from field hockey star at Salem High School in Virginia Beach to Olympian. Her metamorphosis started the minute she took the field at Old Dominion University, where the training regimen exceeded anything she'd ever experienced. ODU also is where, as a junior, she moved from the midfield to defense. The position switch and the increased training, Nichols says, prepared her for her role as a member of the U.S. Olympic field hockey team. Nichols will showcase her talents to fans, family and friends beginning today when Team USA takes on Argentina, the world's No. 2 team, in a trio of Olympic tuneups. The teams meet at 5 p.m. today and 8 p.m. Thursday at ODU, then at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach. Saturday's game is scheduled to be televised live on NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus). Read the full story by Tolliver on Caroline Nichols here.
