Field Hockey Ranked #2 In Latest STX/NFHCA Poll
NORFOLK, VA -- The Lady Monarch field hockey team was ranked second in this week's STX/NFHCA Poll released today. Old Dominion received nine first place votes following a 2-1 week, which included wins over American and James Madison.
Old Dominion (13-4, 3-0 CAA) wrapped up the week capturing the 2001 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season title. Following a 1-2 loss to then fifth ranked North Carolina in a re-match of last year's NCAA Championship game, the Lady Monarchs rebounded with an intense 4-3 victory over James Madison for their sixth straight year undefeated play in the CAA. Old Dominion rounded out the week with an 11-0 route over American, the highest output by the team all year. Senior Adrienne Yoder (Coopersburg, PA), this week's CAA Player of the Week, currently leads all Lady Monarch scorers with 28 points on 10 goals and eight assists. Junior Tiffany Snow (Escondido, CA) is a close second on the stat sheet with 10 goals and three assists for 23 points. Junior goalkeeper Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA) recorded her eighth shutout of the year in the victory over American and currently posts a 1.00 goals against average and .788 save percentage. The field hockey team closes out the 2001 regular season this weekend. The Lady Monarchs will attempt to avenge its loss earlier this month to North Carolina on Saturday, October 27th. The match versus the Tarheels will be the annual Scholarship Game with the $5.00 admission benefiting the Intercollegiate Foundation for Field Hockey Scholarships. The regular season comes to a close against Northeastern on Sunday, October 28th at 2:00 p.m., where the Old Dominion seniors will be honored prior to the start of the game.
