NORFOLK, VA -- The Old Dominion field hockey team will host its annual Scholarship Game on Saturday, October 27th at 1:00 p.m. as the Lady Monarchs host the North Carolina Tar Heels in one of the biggest rivalries in NCAA Field Hockey. Admission to the game is $5.00 with all proceeds benefiting the Old Dominion Intercollegiate Foundation for Field Hockey Scholarships. Gates will open at noon.

The Lady Monarchs and Tar Heels have recorded a large, extensive history that dates back to their first ever match-up during the 1978 season. Old Dominion holds a 28-21-2 all-time record against the Tar Heels, which they will be looking to extend following a heartbreaking 1-2 loss to North Carolina earlier this month.. Last season, the Lady Monarchs defeated North Carolina three times with a 1-0 and 2-1 overtime win during the regular season and a 3-1 victory in the championship game of the NCAA Tournament. In all, the Tar Heels and Lady Monarchs have squared away in NCAA Tournament action nine times over the last 16 years.

The Tarheels, currently ranked fourth according to the latest STX/NFHCA poll released Monday, will play Virginia in Chapel Hill on Wednesday before traveling to Norfolk. To date, North Carolina holds a 12-4 overall record and 2-2 mark in the ACC.

Old Dominion, ranked second in the latest poll, is coming off wins against James Madison (4-3) and American (11-0). Senior Adrienne Yoder (Coopersburg, PA), the CAA Player of the Week, currently leads all Lady Monarch scorers with 28 points, ranking 11th among all NCAA I field hockey players. In net, junior Marybeth Freeman (Holland, PA) is posting a 1.00 goal against average to rank seventh in the country.
